So begins my promised series on species I’ve seen at work. During November and December I was often monitoring at a construction site in Marin County in some marsh next to a slough (they were replacing a flood control pipe because some idiot decided to build a housing development on marsh mud and the houses have sunk). There was great birding to be had and many Western Grebes would pass through. Here’s a great series of a grebe diving (you can’t really see the feet since they’re so far back on the bird-making it nigh impossible for them to walk so they can really only fly and swim) and another photo of them in the area. Enjoy!
