I find this plant in my backyard beautiful, so here’s a series of it in bloom. I’m not much of a botanist, but I *think* it’s a Ceanothus of some kind.
While it’s been raining today, California is in a serious drought. So much so that things were flowering in the middle of January. While I’m despairing a bit at the implications of this overall weather pattern, I was able to get in some nice gardening and time in the backyard.
I found this naturalized daffodil at work along the coast one day in September. There is something classy about it among the ice-plant, like an old Hollywood starlet.
Ok, I’ve actually been itching to get these out, but wanted to have a couple of posts in-between so that you’re not bombarded with flowers. I posted a couple of weeks ago a set of photos I took at the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco nine years ago when I was fifteen. Now that I live in the city I went back, camera in hand. It was interesting to see how I’ve changed since then- I feel like I can photograph a wider range of shapes than I could before, although I need to give my fifteen year-old self some credit. I am 95% self taught when it comes to photography and it was good to know that I’m improving (that’s at least what I think, as this can be a very subjective matter). Form your own opinions!
…and I still do! Continuing to peruse through all of my old photos now that I have a hard drive big enough to hold them, I found photos from a trip to the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco in early 2006. I had just been given my first camera for Christmas, and apparently I was already making some good stuff. A few weeks ago I went back there and took another series of photos, but I’d rather show the old set first. Here’s an album with some of the highlights from that trip in ’06.
My mood is very season-dependent, and because this is winter life is more easily depressing. This is an oldie, from when I went to France when I was 15. It’s in Monet’s garden in Giverny, France. Must counteract the gloom!
In other news, my next domestic project is getting my photos up online. I’m terribly behind, and I would like to put them up on Flickr, as to avoid a second incident of me losing all of my photos from the first two years of college (due to an unfortunate mishap involving transferring files on external hard drives. And no, they’re still gone and I may never get them back -_-.) But step one would be to organize and edit said photos, which might take a while. So sorry guys, you’re going to get mostly old stuff on here for awhile. Happy looking though!
